VINTAGE CELLULOID NECKLACE “RED ROSES”. An elegant statement piece. A San Francisco Bay Area Estate Item. The chain is a deep red color, crafted from celluloid links. Please admire how the links were cut and fashioned together by hand– look for the little “splits”! The chain is strong and in good condition, however, some of the links are not consistent in size and shape (please see the photos). This may have occurred during production, or the chain was exposed to heat at some point in its history. Nine roses are the main focal point of the piece. They are composed of soft celluloid plastic petals. The roses are in good condition with general signs of age (minor spots/splits in the plastic). Petite soft celluloid leaves dangle with the roses. Estimated age 1940’s – 1950’s. This necklace has been professionally cleaned and is ready for wear. Please be careful if you decided to clean this piece yourself, modern cleansers can harm vintage plastics, remove their surface finish, and discolor them! Chain length: 16.5 inches Rose pieces: approximately 1 inch length, 3/4 inch at widest part Leaves: 5/8 inch length, 1/4 inch width. A wonderful gift, especially for a vintage lover! Feel free to message us! A Little About Celluloid Plastic: Celluloid is one of the earliest plastics that was widely used in jewelry making from the early 1900’s to 1960’s. It was incredibly popular during the Art Deco, Great Depression and WW2 periods. Celluloid was a great option for women who wanted to accessorize on a budget. It was also used in the production of dolls, hair ornaments, combs, hat pins, buckles, buttons, frames for pictures, toys, novelty charms, knife handles and much more! In the 1950’s, a lot of celluloid jewelry was manufactured in Japan. Celluloid pieces are highly collectible now! Please read each description carefully and observe all photos before purchasing.
