VINTAGE CELLULOID NECKLACE “SCARLET ROSE”. A wonderful piece of early plastic jewelry! The chain alternates between off white and red colors, crafted from celluloid links. Please admire how the links were cut and fashioned together by hand– look for the little “splits”! It is in very nice condition, the plastic is still strong and has retained much of its color. The leaves are a light green soft celluloid plastic, petite and fashioned after rose leaves. Five soft celluloid rose buds are the focal point. They are a lovely red color, very pretty and romantic looking! Overall, they are in nice condition. They do show minor signs of age including slight darkening on the insides of the buds. In our opinion, this adds depth and makes the roses look more realistic actual roses in nature aren’t perfect! The roses dangle from green “stems”. Polished brass hook closure. This necklace has been professionally cleaned. Please be careful if you decided to clean this piece yourself, modern cleansers can harm vintage plastics, remove their surface finish, and discolor them! PLEASE BE KIND TO YOUR PIECES! Refrain from pulling on the charms, pendants, or the chain. Never expose to flame or very high temperatures. Avoid submerging in water or any other liquids. Chain length: 19.5 inches Rose pieces: approximately 1 inch in length from stem to bottom, 3/4 inch in width Leaves: 5/8 inch in length, a little less than 1/2 inch in width. THE PERFECT GIFT FOR A VINTAGE LOVER! Feel free to message us! A Little About Celluloid Plastic: Celluloid is one of the earliest plastics that was widely used in jewelry making from the early 1900’s to 1960’s. It was incredibly popular during the Art Deco, Great Depression and WW2 periods. Celluloid was a great option for women who wanted to accessorize on a budget. It was also used in the production of dolls, hair ornaments, combs, hat pins, buckles, buttons, frames for pictures, toys, novelty charms, knife handles and much more! In the 1950’s, a lot of celluloid jewelry was manufactured in Japan. Celluloid pieces are highly collectible now! Please read each description carefully and observe all photos before purchasing.
