Vintage Art Deco Chinese Carved Coral Gilt Filigree Necklace
This fabulous necklace dates from about the 1920’s – It is composed of seven nicely carved coral plaques mounted in gilt silver filigree frames. The plaques are connected in short segments of gold filled chain. In the Chinese language, the bat is used as a visual pun for good fortune or happiness (fu) because both characters are pronounced “fu”. Two bats facing each other is symbolic for double good fortune or happiness. Weight: 24.4 grams. Measurements: large plaques are 25 mm x 16 mm, small plaques 19 mm x 11 mm. Condition notes: There is one solder repair on the back of one large pendant. I’m always on the hunt for the lovely and the uncommon jewels of all kinds.
