Alloy (does not have silver/gold content). Why You’ll Love It. A striking marriage of angular forms and fluid grace. This Art Deco necklace embodies the era’s fascination with modernism by seamlessly combining geometric lines with curving foliate motifs. The bold and sleek design is accentuated by the vibrant, emanating green of chrysoprase in striking emerald cuts. A closer look reveals the subtle yet charming floral patterning of green and white enameling on alternating links, adding a refined touch to this distinctive piece. Bright patina with some surface wear to the silver tone finish. Fresh sheen, light surface wear, and no chipping on the chrysoprase. No chipping or thinning. Art Deco is one of the first truly international styles, that influenced the design of buildings, furniture, fashion and of course, jewelry. The movement was given a name from the international exposition of Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes, that was held in Paris in 1925 and largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. Born out of ideas of modernism and the Industrial Age, this manifested into designs that used Cubism’s bold abstraction and rectilinear shapes and combined them with intricate patterning, bold color and symmetry. High-end jewelry design houses like Cartier and Boucheron set the trends in gold and gemstones, which were then emulated by costume jewelry companies in glass or perhaps plastics, and brought to the masses. There are several different styles of enameling: guilloche (colored, transparent enamel over a metal surface with patterned grooves), champlevé (enamel fills etchings or depressions in a metal surface), plique a jour (translucent enamel fitted into open-back metal cells) and more. What makes antique or vintage enamel pieces collectible is the condition of the enamel work-is it distinct and vibrant? Is it free from chips? Other characteristics like an elaborate pattern, unique depiction, or the use of multiple colors can add more value to an enamel pieces. _gsrx_vers_1516 GS 9.3 (1516).
