The Art Deco Era is famous for being the “Gatsby” or “Roaring Twenties” Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. During the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand. Rose Cut Diamonds have been made for hundreds of years. They really gained popularity during the 1700’s and were used until about 1840 when they were replaced with the Mine Cut Diamond. Rose Cut Diamonds are unique in the way that they are one of the last types of stones to feature hand cleaved facets on the stone. These stones are meant to look rough as a stone cutter would hand cleave the facets by cutting the diamond with another diamond. They are highly prized and sought after in today’s market due to their rarity as most of these stones were lost or re-cut into more modern cuts. Akoya Pearls during the Art Deco Period were extremely rare and expensive to own! These pearls were extremely elegant and highly sought after due to their stunning luster and beautiful round shape. The pearls were still very new during the Art Deco Period and usually reserved for only the richest of the rich with their incredibly expensive price. Lavaliere’s are necklaces that included a chain or small link necklace, fairly long, that terminates in a single large pendant or tassel, which in turn often has additional pendants or tassels dangling from it; though named for a mistress of Louis XIV, the style is usually associated with turn-of-the-20th century jewelry, and remained popular into the 1930s. Filigree metal working has been around for thousands of years, however was perfected by the Phoenicians and Etruscan civilizations. It involves stamping out a design in your metal and hand bending and twirling until your design in formed, it is considered one of the most difficult metal working processes. During the Victorian Period White Gold had not been invented yet, it was very popular to mix alloys such as a layers bottom of gold and a top layer of Silver when making a piece of jewelry that featured diamonds. The lighter the metal the more the sparkle of the stones would be brought out. This piece was bought from a Portuguese Estate and then brought to the U. The necklace includes a dog contrast hammer mark. There are two small diamonds missing from the necklace. The necklace includes incredible diamonds throughout and as well as two larger Akoya Pearls! The diamonds are all rose cut with sparkle facets that reflect light brilliantly off of their surface. The diamonds are place throughout the lovely silver topped design and weigh in at. The pearls in this piece are both beautifully rounded and show case a stunning white color. The Akoya pearls feature a stunning amount of luster and measure in at just over 5 mm in diameter. The gold work in this piece includes classic Art Deco Era craftsmanship throughout and is hand made out of rare 19.2k purity gold, otherwise known as 800 gold. The design includes incredible flower, and Fleur De Lis & crown shapes with filigree designs that have been topped with silver to help compliment both the diamonds and pearls. The necklace is finished off with a snake like chain link that is attached together perfectly and measures in at 17.5 long including the pendant. The necklace is finished off with a push in clasp that includes a safety chain. The pendant itself measures in at 3.5″ long by 1.5″ wide.
