We were lucky enough to come across a pair of matching Mosaic Opal earrings for sale this week! This beautiful necklace comes from the Art Deco Era! The Art Deco Era is famous for being the “Gatsby” or “Roaring Twenties” Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. During the Art Deco Era jewelers would often create these pieces to order, which would take weeks to hand craft! Australian Opal was first discovered in the 1890’s. This form of Opal was very expensive when first coming on the market and only the richest could afford it. It was famous for it’s beautiful play of colors that include Red, White, Blue, Green Orange. Traditionally up until the discovery of Australian Opal most Opal stones only had 2-3 colors at most and were very opaque in hue. Retro jewelry refers to pieces created in the 1940s and 1950s, a period during which jewelry designers were largely influenced by the changes accompanying World War II. As the name of the period suggests, these designs reflect an infusion of futuristic vision with elements inspired by preceding periods, encompassing a variety of gemstones, shapes, and materials. The design includes a thick yellow gold setting for the opal center piece and thin yellow gold links that make up the beautiful necklace!
