The Art Deco Era is famous for being the “Gatsby” or “Roaring Twenties” Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. During the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand. Chinese Export jewelry became popular during the late Victorian Period and lasted until the 1960’s. In a lot of ways Chinese Export jewelry fashioned what we know of jewelry today. During these period’s Chinese Craftsmen including Jewelers, Stone cutters were considered by far the best in the world. The rich and wealthy would have a piece custom ordered through their local jeweler whom was usually gifted at drawing a design to send off to contacts in China to craft and send back. As you can imagine, this was not cheap, that being said, these pieces are very rare and few have survived until today. Chinese Stonecutters were considered some of the finest artisans in the world during the Vintage Era. They would carved western themes as well as the more rare traditional eastern themes into their many pieces. It was in Chinawhere the gem-carving tradition was already thousands of years oldthat jadeite reached its peak as an important artistic medium. The first jadeite reached China in the late 1700s, and late eighteenth and early nineteenth century carvers created masterpieces that are still unsurpassed in concept, design, and technical execution. Filigree metal working has been around for thousands of years, however was perfected by the Phoenicians and Etruscan civilizations. It involves stamping out a design in your metal and hand bending and twirling until your design in formed, it is considered one of the most difficult metal working processes. The Jade beads in this gorgeous necklace are all beautifully rounded and show case a stunningly smooth polished surface! Each Jade bead is a gorgeous green color that is incredibly solid throughout creating an absolutely sensational color contrast with the yellow gold work! The Jade beads are in great condition and measure in at about 8 mm in diameter. The Jade beads are beautifully strung on two gorgeous green strings that support them perfectly and is double knotted between each bead to ensure the gems do not damage each other with friction. Some of the beads are not double knotted due to the fact that there are gorgeous 14k yellow gold spheres between them that add a gorgeous style to the necklace! The bottom of the necklace features two absolutely incredible Jade gem stone carvings! The carvings are shaped into a gorgeous oval shape with a hole in the middle and both feature a stunningly smooth polished surface. The gold work in this piece includes the beautiful settings that attach the oval carved Jade gem stones together, and to the necklace as well as gorgeous spheres of yellow gold between some of the Jade beads! The necklace is finished off with a gorgeous push in clasp that works perfectly and is decorated with a stunning filigree design. The necklace measures in at 17 long.
