The Art Deco Era is famous for being the “Gatsby” or “Roaring Twenties” Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. During the Art Deco Era jewelers would often create piece by customer orders which would usually take at least a week to complete by hand! Akoya Pearls during the Art Deco Period were extremely rare and expensive to own! These pearls were extremely elegant and highly sought after due to their stunning luster and beautiful round shape. The pearls were still very new during the Art Deco Period and usually reserved for only the richest of the rich with their incredibly expensive price. Chinese Export jewelry became popular during the late Victorian Period and lasted until the 1960’s. In a lot of ways Chinese Export jewelry fashioned what we know of jewelry today. During these period’s Chinese Craftsmen including Jewelers, Stone cutters were considered by far the best in the world. The rich and wealthy would have a piece custom ordered through their local jeweler whom was usually gifted at drawing a design to send off to contacts in China to craft and send back. As you can imagine, this was not cheap, that being said, these pieces are very rare and few have survived until today. The chasing technique is a very difficult silversmith process when the artist uses a nail like tool and hammer to hand etch patterns within the metal work. This process was very difficult and only the best jewelers were trained in the process. The pearls could use a cleaning in light soap and water. The Akoya Pearl beads in this gorgeous necklace are all beautifully rounded and show case a stunningly smooth polished surface. Each pearl is a gorgeous creme color and features an absolutely stunning amount of luster in each and every pearl that makes this necklace absolutely incredible! The pearls are in great condition and measure in at 7 mm in diameter. The pearl beads are beautifully strung on a gorgeous white string that supports them perfectly and is double knotted between each bead to ensure the pearls do not damage each other with friction. The necklace measures in at 17.5 long. The necklace is finished off with a gorgeous 14k yellow gold push in clasp that works perfectly! The clasp is decorated with a stunningly hand chased design that includes a beautifully textured surface, flowing yellow gold, and an additional Akoya pearl placed on the top of the clasp! Antique and Vintage jewelry is disappearing at alarming rates.
