Welcome to Cypress Creek Vintage. Antique Blue Zircon Necklace Choker with 66 Carats of Art Deco Zircon Set into 9k Gold. This necklace takes my breath away. For those of you who have shopped with me, you know the depth of my blue zircon addiction. Please make no mistake. This is not “cubic zirconia, ” the cheap, man-made lab stone. These are natural blue zircon stones, a treasured mineral among jewelers and collectors. Zircon is the birthstone of December but is so hard to come by, that often topaz has been substituted. Zircon is most often seen during the Art Deco era. The foundation of the piece begins with a 9k yellow gold chain, mount, and clasp. The chain and clasp are of sturdy craftsmanship. I recommend having a jeweler service the clasp to ensure the tightness. Most will do that for free. The gemstones are genuine zircon. My heart is pounding! There are 33 old zircon-cut stones. There is actually a cut called, “zircon, ” seen at lapidary cutting competitions. It is not a cut that is used any longer but it brings out the most sparkle in this particular gem. Each stone measures from 5.96mm-7mm, 1.5 carats each. This means there are approximately 50 carats of gem on this piece. Zircons weigh more than a diamond in density so your, “Face Up” gemstone size is that of about a 1 carat diamond for each stone. Length of necklace – 7 3/4 with the clasp connected and closed. It measures 16 with clasp open and extended. It weighs 14 grams. I have left the patina on this gold. This necklace is truly an heirloom piece. Old zircons are so rare. This piece may also be a great choice for jewelers needing loose zircon-cut zircons for new settings. I also recommend insuring this piece when you receive it.
