The Art Deco Era is famous for being the “Gatsby” or “Roaring Twenties” Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. During the Art Deco Era jewelers would often make these gorgeous piece to order, which would take weeks to hand craft! Chinese Export jewelry became popular during the late Victorian Period and lasted until the 1960’s. In a lot of ways Chinese Export jewelry fashioned what we know of jewelry today. During these period’s Chinese Craftsmen including Jewelers, Stone cutters were considered by far the best in the world. The rich and wealthy would have a piece custom ordered through their local jeweler whom was usually gifted at drawing a design to send off to contacts in China to craft and send back. As you can imagine, this was not cheap, that being said, these pieces are very rare and few have survived until today. It was in Chinawhere the gem-carving tradition was already thousands of years oldthat jadeite reached its peak as an important artistic medium. The first jadeite reached China in the late 1700’s, and late eighteenth and early nineteenth century carvers created masterpieces that are still unsurpassed in concept, design, and technical execution. Chinese Stone cutters were considered some of the finest artisans in the world during the Vintage Era. They would carve western themes as well as the more rare traditional eastern themes into their many pieces. Lavaliere’s are necklaces. That included a chain or small link necklace, fairly long, that terminates in a single large pendant or tassel, which in turn often has additional pendants or tassels dangling from it; though named for a mistress of Louis XIV, the style is usually associated with turn-of-the-20th century jewelry, and remained popular into the 1930s. The necklace has a makers mark on the backside, maybe “F”. The last picture shows another similar necklace, bracelet, pendants, and earrings for sale in other auctions we have. The Jadeite features a beautiful intricate floral flower carving throughout the lavaliere pendant. The color of the Jadeite is the highly sought after Apple Green hue, which looks beautiful and stunning with it’s gorgeous color and translucency. The necklace includes classic handcrafted Art Deco Era craftsmanship throughout including a gorgeous period paper clip link necklace as well as filigree links, repousse & chased shell organic patterned links leading down to the lavaliere pendant. Even the prongs on the stone are ornate with hand chased and patterned leaf prongs. The necklace measures 16 in length not including the lavaliere pendant. The pendant measures another 2″ by just under 1″. Antique and Vintage jewelry is disappearing at alarming rates.
