Notable Features: This beautiful pendant was hand-carved by a talented Chinese stone cutter during the Art Deco Period. It features a gorgeous light. Celadon green Jadeite stone that has been expertly carved with two musicians. One of the musicians is riding either a horse or a donkey and holding a lute, and the other is waving a banner. The details of the people and the animal are just stunning. The open, negative space and light color of the Jadeite make this piece look light and airy. There are two jump rings, one at each upper corner, and a modern Sterling Silver box chain has been run through them. Damage: Age appropriate wear. They drafted a design which was then sent to China to be crafted and sent back. As you can imagine, this was not cheap, that being said, these pieces are very rare and few have survived until today. Chinese Stone cutters were considered some of the finest artisans in the world during the Vintage Era. They would carve western themes as well as the rarer traditional eastern themes into their many pieces. The first jadeite reached China in the late 1700s but reached its peak as an important artistic medium during the late eighteenth and nineteenth century. The gem-carving tradition was already thousands of years old but the masterpieces carvers created during this time are still unsurpassed in concept, design, and technical execution.
