Vtg Art Deco Machine Age Chrome Galalith Modernist Jakob Bengel Necklace
Pairing Collectors with Jewels. This necklace would have felt progressive and incredibly modern at the time of its creation. Designed by Jakob Bengel, its inspired by the sleek metallic machines that were taking over industryseen in the neatly linking, unadorned chainand the bold aesthetic of the Art Deco periodthe tiered look, geometric shapes. In addition, the use of galalith (plastic) was a nod to the newfangled material, which could be molded into any shape and easily colored. As a final touch, the emerald green galalith is continued throughout the chain with little connecting links. A nearly identical design is featured in Bengel Art Deco Schmuck by W. Lindemann on page 52 (with just a slightly different shape for the pendant and the use of green plastic instead of red). Mark Tiny German marks on jump ring. Very good , the design is intact without any irregularities to the setting or signs of repair. There are no chips to plastic and the surface has a nice sheen with fresh looking color. There is some discoloration to the chrome links, more so on the right side of the necklace but it is still modest and the necklace still has a bright and silvery patina.
