Vintage 1930s Art Deco BLUE TRIANGLE Czech Vauxhall Glass Necklace
This Vauxhall glass necklace features blue triangular glass links. Each glass stone is bezel-set and alternates with triangular brass links. The necklace closes with an old spring-ring clasp. To help explain Vauxhall glass. Through the eighteenth century and on into the middle of the nineteenth, Vauxhall glass was a popular gem substitute. Intense hues of highly reflective purple, orange, red, green and blue were set into butterfly, snowflake and flower motifs on necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches and hair combs. These are colored glass stones produced in various molded shapes and having a silvered backing, just as conventional mirror glass has. Think of them as very tiny colorful mirrors that have a dimensional, usually faceted, top surface. The silvered backside, however, is always flat; it is never pointed like many foil-backed rhinestones are. The combination of exceptionally fine quality glass, rich color, and high quality silver backing is what gives Vauxhall glass its uniquely luminous reflective quality and that special glow from within. Condition: Very good with normal wear of finish on the backs of brass settings; one setting probably has a little moisture damage on the inside underneath the stone, when facing the necklace it is the second stone from the end on the left.
