Welcome to jewelbox :. A beautiful necklace in a classic design that has been around for centuries and never bettered. This design is all the more beautiful for the emerald cut glass pastes which add a youthfulness to the piece whilst still being timeless, as well as the stamp for NOVOPLATIN and the maker’s marks of RW. Novoplatin like Platinon and Platinin were all trade names for the metal which was invented in the 1920s to substitute Platinum which was all commissioned for used in the First World War. Like Platinum it did not show wear or tarnish. The necklace is composed of sparkling clear finely cut glass which is table cut to the upper surface and pointed to the reverse which is claw set in open bezel settings so that the light can stream through and make the most of the facets. Each setting is separated by three chain links which allow the necklace to hang beautifully and it fastens with a secure ring bolt clasp which attaches to the signed end ring. The necklace is app 15 inches long which is a VERY SMALL size often the case with these golden oldies. You could attach extra jump rings to lengthen. I had a lovely pink open back necklace which someone had added sterling jump rings to and this was a lovely way to respectfully allow the necklace to be worn. You can find these easily and reasonably online. The settings at app 7.5 mm square. I can only find one little tip that is not as pointy as it originally was at the rear of the necklace. This is such a vulnerable cut i wonder how these have survived so well. A rare piece to gift or treasure yourself. Posting days TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS.
