Art Deco Venetian Murano Tutti Frutti Tiny Love Birds Vintage Garland Necklace

Welcome to Jewel Box :. The sweetest necklace heralding Spring from the fabled isle of Murano where generations of glass makers have plied their art for centuries. It is decorated with abundant clusters of tiny little birds in lovely vivid pastel colours which give it such a happy feel. Each little bird has been individually blown and they have little painted eyes and beaks and sit on lovely tutti frutti beads of the same colours these have the occasional tiny seed pearlised bead to ensure the necklace sits properly when worn. The birds are wound around the body of the necklace with fine brass wire. Also wound around are long tapering beads which are transparent with applications of coloured glass to emulate berries. These are also individually blown (and subsequently applied). The round beads have filigree caps, one or two depending on their location it seems. The necklace is on its original string and fastens with a secure old brass screw clasp. Sometimes the deocration on this genre of necklace can be sparse as components have vanished over the years but this is nice and dense and you cannot see the string. You can almost hear the birds singing! The necklace is app 18.3 inches which is wonderful news! Very difficult to give an exact depth as it depends which way the components settle themselves around the neck but app 30 mm deep. Two other birds have a nick which is not really visible and you have to feel for it. Three of the fruit branches have lost their little tips but you have to really look to notice this they are towards the rear of the necklace. One group at the back is un even there is one fruit branch instead of two but there is no space to suggest anything is missing and maybe this is how it was made. One filigree cap at the end does not sit flat in the making. This may sound like a lot but these necklaces are so fragile that i would class this as being in very good condition. The glass is smooth and glossy. It could do with a gentle clean as there is a little dust settled in tiny crevices here and there if you look really closely. The later examples have larger birds, not these little fine ones all singing for their supper. A wonderful romantic gift a necklace for a bride perhaps or for your own Collection. Will be boxed for travel. Most pieces are also listed elsewhere so first come first served. Any boxes, mannequins or fabrics are for display only. Everything is photographed in natural light with a flash. We do not enhance colours but there could be difference between browsers etc. This has to travel in a deepr box to allow for enough padding to keep it safe and therefore cannot travel as a Large Letter.
