ART DECO RARE IRIS Open Back Bezel Set Paste Crystal Vintage RIVIERE NECKLACE

Welcome to Jewel Box :. A beautiful necklace in a design that has been around for centuries and since it has never been better it will probably be around for centuries to come. The crystals decorating the necklace were only ever made in the Old Kingdom of Bohemia and then Czechoslovakia from Edwardian times at least. They were made in long canes with the design running through like in sticks of seaside rock. These were then cut to size, faceted and polished and i have had an obsession with them since i first saw one! This increasingly difficult to find example has both the iris and watermelon examples the ones with blue being iris and the ones with green being watermelon :- Even the blues vary and although not one looks like its neighbour they harmonise in their mad little way. Each little individual crystal is table faceted to the front and pointed to the back and set into its little setting open so that the light can flood through and make the most of that lovely rainbow of colours and the tiny facets. Each setting is hand linked so that the necklace flows effortless around the neck. At each end there is a little integral extension and the necklace fastens with a secure ring bolt fastener. Photographed with and without flash so you can get a good idea of the colours and condition. The necklace is app 16.5 inches long which is very good news indeed as i have had them as small as just over 13 inches. Each crystal is app 7 mm which forms the width of the necklace. The metal is good strong brass which has been rhodium plated and in some areas on the reverse the plating has worn over time not noticeable in wear and actually rather nice to see. Rhodium is a derivative of Platinum and is also used to this day to protect precious metals in fine jewellery. The settings are nice and deep and this has protected the crystals and they are in lovely condition. A beautiful gift to someone you love or for yourself to treasure always.
