This stunning Art Deco Paste Riviere Necklace dates to the 1920-30’s and features many Old Cut Paste stones, graduating in size, in beautiful closed back milgrain bezel settings. Paste is a special type of hand cut glass which has been used since the 18th century to replicate Gemstones. Antique jewellers often set stones in closed back settings, just like this necklace. This is to allow foil backings under the Paste gems to enhance their scintillation by candlelight. This is a stunning necklace which would make the perfect gift or a great addition to any collection. Necklace measures 15 in length. Largest stone measures 7mm x 7mm. Smallest stone measures 3mm x 3mm. Some stones have slightly darkened with age. Everything else – excellent. Item Number – 1602.
