ART DECO BOHEMIAN CZECH SIGNED PEKING & URANIUM GLASS VINTAGE NECKLACE by NEIGER

Welcome to jewelbox :. Moral of the story do not use Parcel Force! Iconic necklace made in the Old Kingdom of Bohemia by the celebrated Neiger Brothers of Gablonz whose life ended in tragedy in WW2. The necklace is composed of a mixture of translucent glass crystal ones and opaque speckled ones which are a very rich mix. The central cut glass emerald crystal is protected with ornate deep brass filigree caps and links to bell shaped peking glass beads in a vivid turquoise green. These were made to emulate beads from the old Peking Courts and involved the lighter bead being rolled in deeper green glass powders and being refired in the kilns. They are protected with brass filigree flower caps and link to a translucent peridot flying saucer bead flanked with little brass filigree spheres on either side. Then on to a mirror image of the peking glass and filigree, a fat round peking bead flanked with tooled brass rings and smaller mint green faceted crystals. The remainder of the necklace is wired with more multi faceted peking and crystal beads before fastening with a secure brass bolt ring clasp. The necklace is shown with and without flash and also under UV light where the faceted crystal beads glow lime green due to the presence of Uranium in the glass. Don’t worry the uranium in the glass is too small an amount to cause any problems in fact my research showed that a banana contains more uranium than one of these :- The peking glass beads also contain minerals (very likely Magnesium) so that they too glow. The end jump ring is signed JMIT for the Jordan Marsh Department Store in Boston. This venerable store had its origins in 1941 and was eventually absorbed into the Macy’s group in 1995. You can research this online! So this necklace would have been specifically made for the Jordan Marsh Department Store two histories rolled into one. This looks like it has just stepped off the set of Downton Abbey. App 16.6 inches long and app 15 mm deep at centre front. The peking glass bell shaped beads are app 15 mm long. The central bead has tiny flea bites you have to look for that i have shown in the image with the ruler. In amazing condition for having survived the last hundred years and for having made it from Czechslovakia to the United States of America and now to the United Kingdom!
