Antique Art Deco Rare Ruby Red Paste Open Back Riviere Vintage Necklace

Welcome to jewelbox :. A sumptuous necklace in a design that has been around for centuries and since it has never been bettered it will probably be around for centuries to come. The necklace is comprised of individual settings in an oval shape which are claw set with cut glass crystal paste in a lovely rich red tone to emulate rubies. It is really difficult to get this colour as they are usually scarlet or red whereas these really have that blue tone that rubies have. The stones are flat cut to the top with what looks like hand cutting to the backs. Because of the open settings the light can flood through and make the most of the beautiful colour and the facets. Each of these settings is joined with elongated soldered links to the next so that the necklace is flexible and flows gracefully around the neck. This would have been expensive in its day as the cheaper necklaces did not have soldered links. The colour is a soft grey which is very tasteful with the ruby red. The soldering also makes the necklace more robust and keeps the settings safe. The necklace is completed with a small chain on either side and it fastens with a secure ring bolt clasp. Photographed with flash and without so you can see the condition but also an accurate colour as flash tends to just flatten everything. Apologies for the image of the necklace in my hands, without flash and blurred but also showing a reflection of the window which makes it look a bit patchy. App 17.5 inches long which is an AMAZING length. The depth is app 7 mm which is the depth of the pastes. They are app 11 mm long. All the glass is in very good original antique to extremely old vintage condition. I have not cleaned the necklace as there was nothign visible to the naked eye in the images of the reverse i can see a little dust on the backs of the glass. As an old ex antique dealer i tend to like to leave things with the patination of their years. But to my mind this is fine as it is anyway. Sophisticated and utterly’woman’! I will put this in a little black box with silver ribbon there are no spaces left for an image of it. Any boxes, mannequins or fabrics are for display only. Everything is photographed in natural light with a flash. I do not enhance colours but there could be difference between browsers etc. We are human beings and on occasion will probably make a mistake but will do everything we can to resolve one if it happens.
