Antique Art Deco Fx Butterscotch Amber Celluloid Phenol Bead Vintage Necklace

Welcome to Jewel Box :. Phenol was the earliest plastic and was discovered in the 1800s. It was the basis for bakelite. This gorgeous example is a lovely creamy yellow amber colour (not lemony as my camera is seeing it). The beads graduate from 22 mm. The necklace has no clasp but is app 29 inches long. A lovely weight at app 56.6g. It is on its original double string and there is a stretch of app 12 mm at the very back if i push the beads apart. As it is at the back it does not show much when the necklace is worn and the string is strong but it would be prudent to restring this at some point. Pearl sellers advise a restring every two to three years so this has done well. The smaller beads at the rear of the necklace have acquired that matt feel and a darker tone as a result of contact with skin oils. However, this is sometimes the case with the entire necklace so this is pretty good. The larger beads are the best i have ever had with a lovely sheen and texture. Wonderful and looking as if it has stepped of the set of Downton. Most pieces are listed elsewhere so first come first served. Any boxes, mannequins or fabrics are for display only.
