The Art Deco Era is famous for being the “Gatsby” or “Roaring Twenties” Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. During the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand. Seed pearls occur naturally and were used as a decorative border, as tiny accents in small patterns, or in larger clusters woven together to make up an entire piece of jewelry. They were imported from India and China, and carried a hefty price tag due to this. Seed Pearl jewelry was used often for special occasions such as weddings, Mary Todd Lincoln received a seed pearl parure for Lincoln’s inauguration. Australian Opal was first discovered in the 1890’s. This form of Opal was very expensive when first coming on the market and only the richest could afford it. It was famous for its beautiful play of colors that include Red, White, Blue, Green Orange. Traditionally up until the discovery of Australian Opal most Opal stones only had 2-3 colors at most and were very opaque in hue. This incredible necklace includes beautiful Australian Opals, Seed Pearls, and a hand painted portrait center piece! The Australian Opal gem stones in this piece are all beautifully rounded and show case a stunningly smooth polished surface. The gem stones feature their signature glossy white base with gorgeous flares of red, green, and blue that create a stunning pattern! The pearl includes a gorgeous white color and a stunning amount of luster that is absolutely brilliant! The Portrait in this piece is hand painted on a lovely porcelain base. The painting features a lovely side profile view of a gorgeous woman’s face with her gorgeous brown hair, blue dress, and lovely face in front of a red background. The back of the portrait is marked by its maker, Limoges, H. The gold work in this piece includes classic Art Deco Era craftsmanship throughout and is hand carved out of 14k yellow gold! The design includes lovely prong settings throughout as well as gorgeous textured leaf designs, and three stunning tassels! The necklace measures in at 16″ long and includes a “C clasp that works perfectly. The pendant also includes a pre existing pin backing that is still usable if you wish!
